Grafton Banks Finance are working with an SME commercial services company with offices in Brighton, Eats Sussex to recruit a Part Time Finance Manager. This role is working 25 – 30 hours a week reporting into the Finance Director. This Part time job opportunity is central to the smooth financial and operational running of the business. You will take ownership of all day-to-day finance work, manage the month-end process up to trial balance, produce accurate management accounts, and maintain strong financial controls. You will also oversee some general office and operational tasks, ensuring that our team and office environment run efficiently. 

Duties and Responsibilities will include:

  • Month-End & Management Accounts
  • Complete month-end close processes including journals, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, and reconciliations.
  • Produce monthly management accounts with commentary, variance analysis and insights to support decision-making.
  • Maintain an accurate trial balance and prepare schedules for internal and external reporting.
  • Support the FD with budgeting, forecasting and cashflow planning.
  • Bookkeeping & Financial Control
  • Maintain the day-to-day accounting ledgers including sales, purchase, bank, and general ledger postings.
  • Reconcile all key balance sheet accounts monthly (bank, debtors, creditors, accruals, prepayments, control accounts).
  • Monitor cashflow and prepare weekly updates as required.
  • Invoicing, Billing & Credit Control
  • Raise accurate and timely invoices based on project milestones.
  • Liaise with project managers to ensure invoicing aligns with timelines and contracted terms.
  • Maintain structured credit control: monitor aged debtors, follow up payments, and report on overdue balances.
  • Process supplier invoices, manage approvals, oversee payment runs, and maintain supplier relationships.
  • Ensure all supplier invoices are correctly authorised and coded. 
  • Support year-end audit preparation and liaise with external accountants.
  • Ensure financial processes and documentation meet best-practice standards.
  • Ensure the office environment remains organised and well-supported.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in an accounting or management accounting role, ideally within a small business
  • Ability to produce a full set of management accounts and maintain the trial balance autonomously.
  • Strong bookkeeping skills including reconciliations, journals, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Confident working with accounting software (preferably Xero)
  • Excellent Excel skills and ability to produce clear, insightful reporting.
  • High levels of accuracy, organisation, and initiative.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities independently.
  • AAT or QBE with strong practical experience.
  • Experience supporting operations or administrative functions in a growing business.

This is a part time job opportunity working 25 – 30 hours a week. The job is paying up to £35,000 FTE. This is a permanent job offering.
